Choosing an instrument

A good home setup makes good technique easier to build.

Students may learn on an acoustic piano or a quality digital piano. For digital instruments, we strongly recommend 88 weighted keys that simulate the resistance and return of an acoustic action.

Weighted keys support finger control, dexterity and strength from the beginning. A sustain pedal and music stand are also important; headphone connections and an adjustable stand can make home practice more practical.

Advanced students and families considering formal examinations should discuss acoustic-piano access with their educator before purchasing an instrument. Digital pianos vary greatly in feel, so trying before buying is worthwhile.

Additional options

Keep learning flexible without losing momentum.

Seasonal and inclusive pathways are discussed around the student and educator’s availability.

Summer Programme & school holidays

During the year, we balance enjoyable repertoire with focused skill development. Summer gives students more freedom to choose music from favourite shows, films or current songs while maintaining a healthy routine.

Families may also choose our Summer Programme to maintain momentum, consolidate skills and continue making progress before the new school term. Please ask early, as availability varies.

Next Note

Ask early about holiday lesson availability.

Inclusive lessons & NDIS enquiries

Lessons can be paced around strengths, communication preferences and individual goals. Little Big Piano is an unregistered provider accepting self-managed NDIS participants. We provide piano education rather than clinical therapy, and funding suitability remains the family’s responsibility.
